The Section “Humanities and Social Sciences” brings together 33 Bulgarian Humboldtians. Seven of them represent the social sciences – law, sociology and economics – while the rest are philologists, philosophers, historians and archaeologists. In addition to taking part in the general activities of the Humboldt Union in Bulgaria – regional Kollegs, discussions and exhibitions – many members of the Section have also acted as initiators and organisers of Humboldt conferences in their fields of research, as compilers and editors of thematic volumes, and as authors of a number of bilateral projects carried out with the financial support of the Foundation.

The Section periodically holds informal gatherings at which, in the spirit of the ancient academies, a colleague’s lecture on his or her individual research achievements is combined with an informal discussion of the interdisciplinary associations it gives rise to, and with an exchange of information about intriguing publications and ideas for future projects.
