This Privacy Policy explains how the Humboldt Union in Bulgaria (the “Union”, “we”, “us”), an association, processes personal data in connection with this website, humboldtunion-bulgaria.org, in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (the General Data Protection Regulation, “GDPR”) and applicable Bulgarian law.

2. What personal data we process, and why

2.1 When you contact us

If you use the contact form, we process the data you submit — first name, last name, email address, telephone number, and the content of your message.

Purpose: responding to your enquiry.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (our legitimate interest in responding to correspondence addressed to us) or Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where the enquiry relates to membership.
Retention: for the duration of our correspondence and up to 2 years thereafter, unless a longer period is required by law.

2.2 Technical data (server logs)

When you visit this website, the hosting infrastructure automatically records limited technical data: IP address, date and time of the request, requested page, HTTP status, browser type (user agent), and referring page.

Purpose: operating the website securely, detecting abuse, and diagnosing technical problems.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (our legitimate interest in the security and availability of our systems).
Retention: a short rotation period in accordance with the hosting provider’s practice, unless needed to investigate a specific security incident.

2.3 Public information about members of the Union

This website presents the community of Bulgarian Humboldtians and publishes profiles of members of the Union: names, academic titles, institutional affiliation, scientific areas, information about research stays under programmes of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and, where the member has provided one, an institutional email address.

Purpose: presenting the activities and the community of the Union, which is among its statutory goals.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (the member’s consent) and/or Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (our legitimate interest in presenting the membership community).
Any member may at any time request the rectification or removal of his or her profile by contacting us.

3. Cookies

This website does not set cookies for visitors. No tracking cookies, no analytics cookies, no advertising cookies, no third-party trackers. That is why you do not see a cookie consent banner here. Technical WordPress cookies are used only upon logging in to the administrative area — by the authorised editors of the website, not by visitors. If this ever changes, this policy will be updated first and any non-essential cookies will require your prior consent.

4. Who processes data on our behalf

This website is hosted on infrastructure operated by a hosting provider established in the European Union, acting as our processor. We do not sell personal data. We do not share personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.

5. International transfers

The systems on which the data is stored are located in the European Union. We do not transfer personal data outside the EU/EEA.

6. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

  • access the personal data we hold about you (Art. 15);
  • rectification of inaccurate data (Art. 16);
  • erasure (“right to be forgotten”, Art. 17);
  • restriction of processing (Art. 18);
  • data portability (Art. 20);
  • object to processing based on legitimate interest (Art. 21).
