The International Scientific Conference “Emotions and Intellect: Representations in Balkan Languages and Cultures” was held in Sofia from 22 to 24 January 2025. The event was funded by the Bulgarian National Scientific Fund as part of a partnership programme with the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. The scientific forum focused on the emotional and the rational as a stable components of the human essence, their presence in the cultural patterns of different epochs and their reflection on languages in their oral or written form. A total of 42 papers were presented and discussed, with over 50 established and early-career scholars from 10 different countries participating. The papers explored diverse approaches to the study of concepts pertaining to human emotions and intellect in the languages and cultures of the Balkan region, as well as their transmission in translated texts. Among the participants were Humboldt scholars from Bulgaria, Italy, and Austria. It is expected that the papers will be published in a series of Bulgarian academic journals that are indexed in prominent international scientific databases.
During the conference, a two-volume set of dictionaries to Constantine of Preslav’s Didactic Gospel was presented. These were prepared by an international team with 50% participation of Humboldtiansunder an BNSF-funded project.
